FIRST STEPS AS A NEW MEMBER OF RESEARCH STAFF
Welcome to the University of Glasgow Researcher Community
The Research Culture and Researcher Development portfolio within the Research Service Directorate is your point of contact for all things Researcher Development at UofG.
Researcher development is the spectrum of activities, events and opportunities designed to enrich your skills and working relationships, foster your talents, and accelerate your professional prospects.
In accordance with our commitment to implement the Researcher Development Concordat, Research Staff are expected to spend a minimum of 10 days/year (pro rata), engaging with activities, experiences and opportunities which support their professional and career development. We are here to support you to reflect, plan and action a development plan that aligns with your professional and career ambitions.
Every researcher is unique and so we invite you to engage with development activities that are right for you. Our ambition, as a team, is to empower every researcher to be at their best and make informed and active choices about their career.
You can browse our development offer on Inkpath and we highlight and share developmental opportunities from across UofG directly with you via our mailing list: Subscribe (UofG login and VPN (off Campus) required).
Four things to do straight away:
Enrol for New Research Staff Induction
Held quarterly Research Staff Induction is designed to jump start your development planning by increasing your awareness of the UofG provision of professional and career development opportunities, and the wealth of expertise and support available to you as a Glasgow Researcher.
RS induction will also bring you together with fellow new Researchers from across UofG to connect and hear from and meet members of our team, our wider directorate and key partners and members of the college research staff development networks.
Join the Research Staff Assembly
The Research Staff Assembly (RSA) is designed to enable all Research Staff at the University of Glasgow, across the many and varied job roles and titles that encompasses, to come together, build your networks, support each other, have your say, and stay in the know. It exists as both an online network through a bespoke MS Teams space, and a monthly open hybrid briefing on the latest news, hot topics, and insights from internal and external partners.
Read the Concordat and Plan Your Development
Take time to read the Researcher Development Concordat. It outlines your role and responsibilities as a member of research staff in your development and in the development and maintenance of a supportive, fair and inclusive research culture. It also sets out roles and responsibilities for the University as a signatory and Managers of Researchers, such as PIs. You are expected to spend a minimum of 10 days/year (pro rata), engaging with activities, experiences and opportunities which support your professional and career development.
